Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

it does appear as though the bolt was not in battery. but if that was the case, why did the bolt not move backwards? perhaps an oversized neck diameter stopped the cartridge from fully chambering,...

Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

Only the lug tip broke and that one is inside the bolt, it won't break from something in the way when chambering, it only breaks because of metal fatigue caused by repeatedly "hammering" of the...

Thanks Slug for parting with the rifle. It looks like the bolt was not locked up. Stud on operating rod must have sheared off upon closing the action. See how the case seems to have flowed a bit to...

Nice pics Carlos, is the barrel ok with nothing left in it ? That stud tip was sheared off because the operating rod was not fully forward, the striker pin rim sheared it off otherwise the complete...

Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

Inside of the barrel is fine, but the barrel threads have been bent enough on the right side to make it difficult, if not impossibles to re-use it in another receiver . I'll add a picture later tonight.

Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

A K31 does not blow up due to a overload that easy, remember what that small BP (Beschuss Probe) stamp stands for ? A normal GP11 generates a pressure of 3200 kg/cm2 or 45515 PSI in a K31 and the...

Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

From what I can see in Carlos' excellent photos, it appears to me the case was fully chambered and supported by a locked bolt - not an out-of-battery incident. The main evidence is the case itself,...

Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

Hmmmm. . . Norma has a reputation for being a little soft and a bit thinner than some others - but not for poor quality control. A case would have to be about "dead soft" to let go like that at normal...

Re: Painful K31 post On Canadiangunnutz.com forum

The sudden gas release from a case head failure (usually from excessive pressure) frequently blows off the top of the reciever ring. I'm fairly certain this rifle was blown by a massive overload.
